Introduction to pig and cattle keeping
Course content (combines the main content of our single pig and cattle day courses):
- Registering your smallholding for pigs and cattle
- Preparing for the pigs and cattle to arrive (housing, feed, fencing etc)
- Choosing your pigs and cattle, and bringing them home
- Settling your pigs and cattle in
- Handling
- Daily routines
- Possible disease and signs to watch for
- How best to grow your pigs and cattle
- Getting sows in pig, and cows in calf
- Farrowing and calving, and weaning
- Preparation for slaughter
- Transport
- Abattoirs
- Butchers
- Butchery at home (including charcuterie)
- Selling your produce
Lots of hands-on opportunity.
Tea, coffee and homemade cakes available throughout the day.
Hot pork or beef lunch provided.
Set of colour notes to take away.
Cost:
£95 per person including lunch and refreshments.

Course run from 10am till 4pm on a Saturday or a Sunday, throughout the year.
