Introduction to pig and cattle keeping

Course content (combines the main content of our single pig and cattle day courses):

  • Registering your smallholding for pigs and cattle
  • Preparing for the pigs and cattle to arrive (housing, feed, fencing etc)
  • Choosing your pigs and cattle, and bringing them home
  • Settling your pigs and cattle in
  • Handling
  • Daily routines
  • Possible disease and signs to watch for
  • How best to grow your pigs and cattle
  • Getting sows in pig, and cows in calf
  • Farrowing and calving, and weaning
  • Preparation for slaughter
  • Transport
  • Abattoirs
  • Butchers
  • Butchery at home (including charcuterie)
  • Selling your produce

Lots of hands-on opportunity.

Tea, coffee and homemade cakes available throughout the day.
Hot pork or beef lunch provided.
Set of colour notes to take away.

Cost:
£95 per person including lunch and refreshments.

Dates:
